Postojna Cave is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Slovenia and one of the largest cave systems in the world. It is located near Postojna, about 50 kilometers southwest of Ljubljana.

Postojna Cave was first discovered in the 17th century, but became a popular tourist attraction in the 19th century. The cave is about 24 kilometers long, of which about 5.5 kilometers is open to visitors. The tour of the cave takes place by train, which passes through picturesque tunnels and halls, and then continues on foot accompanied by an experienced guide.

During the tour, you will admire beautiful underground formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, pillars and a curtain created by water over thousands of years. A special feature of the Postojna Cave is also a large hall called the Congress Hall, which can accommodate thousands of visitors and is the venue for various events such as concerts and performances.

In addition to spectacular natural forms, Postojna Cave is also known for its animal population. Several species of insects, crustaceans and other cave organisms live in the cave. The most famous inhabitant of the cave is the human fish, an endangered species of blind cave amphibian that has become the symbol of Postojna Cave. Visitors have the opportunity to see human fish in a special aquarium where natural conditions are created for their existence.

In addition to visiting the Postojna Cave, there are several other attractions nearby. In the immediate vicinity is Predjamski Castle, which is built in a rock wall and is considered the largest cave castle in the world. The castle offers an insight into life in the Middle Ages and exhibits about the history and legends of the place.

Postojna Cave is open to visitors all year round, but it is best to check the tour schedule before visiting. Due to its high popularity, I recommend that you book your tickets in advance, especially during the summer months. A visit to the Postojna Cave is an unforgettable experience that offers you a unique insight into the mysterious underground worlds
